Noront Resources Ltd. (”Noront” or the “Company”) (TSX Venture: NOT) is pleased to announce assay results from the final 30 diamond drill holes recently completed on its Blackbird chromite deposits, located in McFauld’s Lake in the James Bay Lowlands.

A total of 92 holes (25,477 metres) were drilled at during the most recent drill program and drill operations were completed in June 2009. The primary goal of this drilling campaign was to define a National Instrument 43-101 compliant resource for the Blackbird chromite deposits. The preparation of the resource estimate is currently being undertaken by Micon International Limited and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.

The intervals sampled and reported by Noront include both massive chromite and zones of intercalated beds of chromitite and heavily disseminated chromite hosted by talc-altered and/or serpentinized dunite and peridotite. In some cases, lower grade intervals in the table below are comprised of numerous, higher quality chromite bands measuring several centimetres to metres in length. These intercalated intervals are readily upgradeable to the same quality as the massive chromite units with minimal mechanical processing.

Following the completion of drilling on the Blackbird deposits, intervals of intercalated beds of chromitite were re-sampled to ensure that the resource estimate took the economic potential of these beds into account. This re-sampling will allow for more accurate modelling of smaller intervals of massive chromitite that were originally lumped into larger intervals with lower grade material. The re-sampling program should allow for all upgradeable intercalated intervals to be accounted for in the resource estimate and reduce potential for grade dilution in the model. A total of 41 holes were partially re-sampled as a part of this program.

President and CEO Wes Hanson stated: “receipt of these remaining results will allow Micon to begin estimating the overall chromite resource at Blackbird, the first step in understanding the economic value of the chromite resource. We have directed a significant amount of exploration capital towards understanding the Blackbird chromite deposit, completing 154 drill holes (52,344 metres) to define Canada’s initial chromite resource. While we believe the current drilling is adequate to define a sufficient sized resource to evaluate project economics, the impressive aspect to the Blackbird deposit is that it remains open to depth, offering significant resource potential for the future.”

Quality Assurance and Quality Control

All holes drilled are systematically logged and then sampled. Samples are shipped regularly to Actlabs in Thunder Bay, Ontario for sample preparation and initial analysis (TD-ICP) following strict chain of custody procedures. All chromite samples are analysed by fusion X-ray fluorescence (XRF). The X-ray emissions allow the composition of the sample to be determined to a high degree of accuracy. For more information on Actlabs analytical procedures please visit Actlabs website at: www.actlabs.com.

Noront also employs an internal QA/QC program where each batch of 35 samples includes one blank, two internationally certified reference materials (ICRMs; also known as standards), one quarter-sawn field duplicate, a coarse reject duplicate, and a pulp duplicate. The pass/fail criteria for the Cr standard are the same as for the previously reported INAA analytical method. In particular, if measured concentrations in standards differ from accepted values by more than two standard deviations of the method as determined by numerous INAA repeats on the standards at Actlabs, the entire batch fails and is re-analysed. Tracy Armstrong, P.Geo, of P&E MINING CONSULTANTS INC, supervises Noront’s QA/QC program.

Additional quality control measures have been recently adopted for Cr and Fe including the blind insertion of a certified reference material SARM 8, purchased from Mintek in South Africa, and a change from INAA to fusion X-ray fluorescence (XRF) to analyse chromite samples. For fusion XRF assays the samples are melted with borate fluxes and quenched to a glass bead, which is then irradiated with X-rays. The secondary X-ray emissions are counted and used, with reference to several calibrants, to determine the whole rock composition including the analytes and all other major oxide components of the rock. The additional compositional data would be of interest to buyers of any potential ore from the Blackbird deposits.
