Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g on New Oracle SPARC T3 Server Beats IBM Websphere on POWER7 Server

ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO – Sept. 20, 2010

News Facts

Today, Oracle announced that Oracle® WebLogic Server 11g (www.oracle.com/appserver/index.html) , a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g (www.oracle.com/us/products/middleware/index.htm) , together with Oracle Database 11g (www.oracle.com/database/index.html) Release 2 running on Oracle’s SPARC T3 servers (www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/servers/sparc-enterprise/index.html) with Oracle Solaris (www.oracle.com/solaris) achieved a world record single-node result on SPECjEnterprise2010 industry standard benchmark(1).
This result surpasses the best IBM single-node result on this benchmark by 32 percent(2).

Benchmark Details

Oracle WebLogic Server 11g with Oracle Database 11g Release 2 achieved 9,456.28 SPECjEnterprise2010 EjOPS. Oracle WebLogic Server was running on an Oracle SPARC T3-4 server powered by four SPARC T3 1.6 GHz processors. Oracle Database 11g was running on a SPARC T3-2 server equipped with two SPARC T3 1.6 GHz processors and used Sun Storage 6180 Arrays. Both SPARC T3 servers were running Oracle Solaris, the #1 enterprise operating system providing best-in-class reliability, security and performance.
Oracle’s complete, open and integrated solution consumed only half as much physical space and delivered three times better performance per rack unit (RU) than the best published single-node result by IBM(2).
SPECjEnterprise2010 is a Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) -based industry standard benchmark, which tests an end-to-end technology infrastructure that includes server hardware, Java Virtual Machine (JVM), database, operating system, storage and network subsystems.
For the past decade, Oracle has consistently submitted record-setting Java application server benchmarks on a broad range of hardware and software platforms (3,4,5,6). For current leading results, visit: www.oracle.com/solutions/performance_scalability/benchmark_results.html.
