Enables Customers to Streamline Storage Provisioning and Management
Redwood Shores, Calif. – August 23, 2011
News Facts
Enabling customers to reduce time and complexity in their virtualization environments, Oracle today announced Oracle VM Storage Connect plug-ins for Oracle VM 3.0 (www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/oraclevm/ovm-storage-connect-458678.html) .
Oracle VM Storage Connect is a framework enabling storage vendors to make their advanced storage features a natural part of Oracle VM.
Oracle VM Storage Connect allows customers to transparently manage storage and virtualization together through Oracle VM Manager, a component of Oracle VM 3.0 (www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/459406) , also announced today.
Through Oracle VM Storage Connect, administrators can directly configure and manage the storage attached to their Oracle VM server pools, fully leveraging their investments in advanced storage functionality, such as deduplication and fast clone, and streamline the deployment and management of virtual infrastructure and applications in datacenter and cloud environments.
Leading partners providing Oracle VM Storage Connect plug-ins include: Fujitsu, Hitachi Data Systems and NetApp (www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/459387) .
Oracle VM Storage Connect plug-ins are being developed for Oracle’s Sun ZFS Storage Appliances (www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/storage/unified-storage/index.html) and for the Pillar Axiom 600 SAN storage system (www.oracle.com/us/corporate/Acquisitions/pillardata/index.html) .
Centralized Storage Management Improves Datacenter Efficiency
Oracle VM Storage Connect provides virtualization administrators the ability to use Oracle VM Manager to create, delete, provision and resize storage directly on the storage device or file system.
Through integration with the features provided by Oracle and partner storage devices and file systems, Oracle VM Storage Connect plug-ins permit virtualization administrators to use the Oracle VM Manager GUI to execute on advanced storage functionality directly on the storage area including snapshots or “instant” cloning, Logical Unit Number (LUN) creation, deduplication, and thin provisioning.
By configuring access groups and controlling access to the storage, users can tailor security to the operating procedures in their enterprise.
Oracle VM Storage Connect plug-ins can be delivered to users by Oracle or partners independently from the Oracle VM release, enabling rapid support for new storage products and vendors.
Supporting Quote
"Our customers are application-driven. Oracle VM helps get those applications up and running faster by focusing not just on a solution for the virtualization layer alone but by enabling the delivery of a fully configured, end-to-end application environment to users. Oracle VM Storage Connect extends this strategy of full-stack integration to the storage layer. Customers can benefit from simpler, more centralized infrastructure management, accelerated provisioning of their applications, and greater IT agility as they leverage their storage systems from Oracle VM 3.0,” said Wim Coekaerts, senior vice president Linux and Virtualization Engineering, Oracle.
