www.safelayer.com-the market leader in security and trust for information and communication technologies-is the first developer to announce the availability of the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) functionality required for deploying the security infrastructure of second generation electronic passports (EAC).

The Extended Access Control (EAC) system for ePassports provides security mechanisms to protect against the fraudulent use of the personal identity information stored on second generation electronic passports. Implementing the EAC system requires a considerable coordination and standardization effort between the countries adopting it. This effort is being carried out by the Brussels Interoperability Group (BIG). As this is a European standardization initiative, its scope of application is of worldwide interest.

The Single Point of Contact (SPOC) service allows governments to control which domestic and foreign inspection systems can access the personal data on the passports. According to Francisco Jordan, Safelayer’s CEO and co-founder, “SPOC is a critical component of the security infrastructure required for the deployment of the new travel documents in Europe and other countries, facilitating the interconnection of national PKIs. With this announcement, Safelayer positions itself as the leader in PKI solutions for citizen electronic identification (eIDs) and the electronic travel documents (ePassports), the company providing complete systems with proven capacity for meeting the highest requirements for security, scalability, interoperability and conformity that this type of critical infrastructure requires.”

As part of the BIG’s activity and with the aim of testing the interoperability between the SPOC/EAC technologies of the countries deploying infrastructures for the second generation ePassport, Safelayer has created a SPOC test area for electronic passports as per the BIG’s specifications. Accessible via labs.safelayer.com, Safelayer’s SPOC test area falls in line with its strategic commitment to interoperability and the security standards, the goal being to provide fully-tested solutions of the highest quality.

The interoperability of Safelayer’s ePassport solutions was demonstrated in the last international ePassports EAC Conformity & Interoperability Tests organized by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, the BIG, and the European Commission’s ‘Article 6 Committee’ and Joint Research Centre.
