NEU ISENBURG, Germany - Seiko Instruments Inc. has released its new High Input Voltage CMOS Voltage Regulator S-1142. This Voltage Regulator has an input Voltage of 3V…50V and low current consumption of only 4microA typ. This makes the high-temperature type (suffix “H”; Ta= -40degreesC…+105degreesC) ideal for automotive applications, connecting the vehicle battery directly. Whereas the consumer version (suffix “I”; Ta= -40degreesC…+85degreesC) fits perfectly to many multi-cell battery applications for shop, garage, home and garden. The output voltage ranges from 2.0V to 12.0V in 0.1V steps. Maximum Power dissipation of this part is determined by the used package. The applied HSOP- 6 (5.02mm x 6.0mm x 1.75mm) package permits 1900mW when mounted on an appropriate. Two kinds of temperature specifications require consideration. One the ambient temperature Ta is determined by the components environment, the junction Temperature Tj is the temperature in the active semiconductor junctions. The temperature Tj is produced by power conversion in the semiconductor. Ta specs determine in which environment this component may be used and Tj influences the power capabilities and the specs under operating conditions.

Still a Low-Drop-Out (LDO) is ensured by the low on-resistance of the series-regulator transistor which is also utilized in over-current-protection , thermal shutdown under overload and the ON/OFF control. The phase compensation circuit permits ceramic capacitors with low equivalent series resistance (ESR) of 0.1microF or more to be used as input and output capacitors.

Applications:

Automotive applications and included comfort and entertainment systems (S-1142xxxH)

Battery driven tools and appliances in shop, garage, home and garden (S-1142xxxI)
