Taj Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad, was the winner in the Overseas Leisure Hotels category for Asia & the Indian Subcontinent, and was voted seventh-best in the World’s Top 100. Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, was voted second Overseas Business Hotel and ranked twelfth in the World’s Top 100.

Falaknuma Palace opened last year after a ten year restoration, bringing this famed home of the Nizams back to its former glory and putting Hyderabad firmly on the traveller’s trail.

Taj Mahal Palace also had a big year.  Following a meticulous restoration of the heritage wing, the flagship for the entire group, it re-opened as an icon of India and a favourite for business and leisure travellers alike.

The 14th successful Condé Nast Traveller annual Readers’ Travel Awards were announced on 31st August. The awards give readers of the magazine the chance to voice their views on all things relating to travel.

Readers filled out questionnaires during April 2011, either in print or online.  The replies were collated and analysed by an independent market-research company.  The categories include hotels from each continent, tour operators, airlines, cities, countries, islands, spas and airports.

Both hotels have also received numerous other awards, including being featured in the Condé Nast Hot List 2011.
