Terry Lifts Overcome Accessibility Issues at New Sikh Temple in Swindon
By Terry Lifts, PRNEMonday, September 27, 2010
KNUTSFORD, England, September 28, 2010 - A new 2,000-seat Sikh temple created from a disused industrial building
in the Wiltshire town of Swindon presented an unusual opportunity for Terry
Lifts, who specialise in disabled access solutions.
The Prabh Milne Ka Chao (PMKC) temple has attracted media coverage
throughout the Sikh community for its elegant yet understated design. To
achieve the impressive 2,000-seat capacity, a mezzanine floor was installed
in the temple - which meant there had to be provision for wheelchair access
to comply with UK Building Regulations and meet the requirements of the
Disability Discrimination Act.
Cheshire-based Terry Lifts were consulted by the PMKC organisation to
find the best solution to these accessibility issues. As specialists in the
design and manufacture of public access wheelchair lifts, Terry Group offer a
range of products which can be tailored to a customer's specific needs.
In this case, a Concerto GS public access wheelchair lift was
recommended. Its flexible, modular design meant that the lift could be
quickly and easily installed with minimal electrical or building work
required. This also kept time scales and disturbance in the temple to a
minimum.
John McSweeney, Sales and Marketing Director at Terry Lifts, was
justifiably pleased with this high profile installation:
"The client was delighted with the new lift," said John, "and we've also
had lots of positive feedback about the after-sales care we provided before
the official opening of the building."
In keeping with the restrained yet contemporary feel of the temple
interior, the choice of colours and finishes for the Concerto GS provided a
modern, attractive solution.
This versatile vertical access platform lift is not only available in a
wide choice of colour and enclosure options. For user convenience and safety,
the Concerto can also be specified with up to six stops and to a lifting
height of up to nine metres.
As with all Terry Group products, the lift is British built; it complies
with Part 'M' of the Building Regulations ISO - 9386-1; and is also 'CE'
marked which means it meets European Health, Safety and Environmental
Protection standards.
The Concerto GS is driven by an ultra-reliable and low-maintenance
self-sustained nut and screw drive. Other features include:
- Application range: people with impaired mobility and wheelchair users - internal and external locations - Soft start/stop included as standard - Safe working load 400Kg - Rated speed 0.15m per second - Emergency lowering facility with battery back-up - Platform illumination with battery back-up Optional specifications: - Voice and visual enunciation on platform - Power-operated doors - Fire door - Split mast option for installation access - Glazing panels - Security options available (eg.
