UTL: Austria’s venerable Christmas Market is perfect for children of all ages, and a meeting point for those who savour the mood of Advent and the run-up to Christmas.

“Vienna’s Fairytale Christmas” is staged between Vienna City Hall and the Burgtheater from 12 November to 24 December. Vienna Magic of Advent opens its gates to guests of all ages. The placid Rathauspark, the charm of Christmas Market, arts-and-crafts programmes for children and cultural highlights: Vienna Christmas Market pleases any taste.

Scents of Lebkuchen, chestnuts, roasted almonds, bountiful gifts and decorations in the market sate hearty appetites and passions for shopping. Concerts and music presentations in Vienna City Hall’s festival hall provide musical accompaniment to the gala atmosphere. The festively-lit Christmas tree before the spectacular backdrop of Vienna City Hall, and the Children’s Programme in the Volkshalle, turn Vienna Magic of Advent into a unique experience for the entire family.

Little visitors coming to “Christkindl’s Workshop” certainly get their money’s worth! Under expert guidance, they bake and do handicrafts to their heart’s content. The ride on the “Christkindl Express” through the colourfully decorated park warms childrens’ hearts, while Christmas tales from the Viennese Christkindl is unforgettable enchantment.

Need some quiet? Leave the hustle and bustle behind and rummage through the festively decorated Rathauspark! Then go to the Manger Scene and “Post Office in the Clouds”, where seasonal stamps and special postcards are found. Here, a yuletide post office will open for business on two dates.
