2010 - Emerging Markets Beat Western Europe
By Economist Intelligence Unit, PRNESunday, December 20, 2009
LONDON, December 21 - The new year will be a story of BRICs versus PIGS, says Robin Bew,
Editorial Director and Chief Economist at the Economist Intelligence Unit
in his monthly Global Forecast programme broadcast on www.cantos.com.
Investors will find in 2010 that the so-called BRIC economies - Brazil,
Russia, India and China - are a safer haven than some western European
countries.
A new term has been coined for troubled Eurozone economies that are now
deemed to be a risky bet. Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Spain are being
dubbed "PIGS". This foursome have major debt problems and poor growth
prospects.
Together with the Middle East, Robin Bew thinks the new year will bring
more gloom to the PIGS. Whereas China and India will surge forward with
Brazil and Russia also enjoying respectable growth.
