5th Mediterranean Economic Week Marseille, 10-15 October, 2011

MARSEILLE, France, October 4, 2011 -
The Marseille Provence-Alpes-Côtes d’Azur region will welcome Mediterranean stakeholders for the 5th Mediterranean Economic Week to exchange on economic development in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region, to encourage partnerships between development actors and to promote commercial exchanges and investments in the region.
The 5th Mediterranean Economic Week will take place in Marseille from 10 to 15 October at the Palais du Pharo-the MPM Congress Centre- and at the Palais de La Bourse. The event also aims to assemble tomorrow’s economic actors to debate on springboards for growth such as education and health, and to better understand what the youth expects in terms of employment opportunities and democracy.
During the six-day event, over 3,000 participants from some thirty countries will take part in 15 meetings, workshops, exhibits and forums proposed throughout the week.
This year’s programme includes:
- The 2nd Mediterranean Eco-Cities Forum
- The workshop on Regional Public Tools for SME Financing .
- The Citizens Forum
- The Top T.I.C.
- The Annual Event of the “Maison Méditerranéenne des Métiers de la Mode”
- The Women in EuroMediterranean Economy network organizes a debate on “Interculturality: Economic development strategy in the EuroMediterranean Region”.
- The workshop on Geographical Data: Mediterranean Cities and Regions
- The MedVentures ICT Business Forum
- The Mediterranean and European Port Professionals Forum
- The Marseille Forum will bring together over 200 Mediterranean decision and policy makers
- A workshop on Water Governance in the Mediterranean
- The 7th Mediterranean Forum
All the actors engaged in the development of the Mediterranean economy are concerned: international organisations, Governments, cooperation and development agencies, local and regional authorities, enterprises, chambers of commerce, public establishments for local development, research and development institutes, networks and associations, researchers, academics and representatives of international organisations.

The Mediterranean Economic Week is being organised by the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the City of Marseille, the Urban Community Marseille Provence Métropole, the Euroméditerranée Public Establishment, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Marseille Provence and the Mediterranean Commission of United Cities and Local Governments. The event receives the support of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
