AA Travel Insurance Urge Air Passengers to Insure Their Luggage Before Travelling

BASILDON, England - As the Christmas holiday season approaches, AA Travel Insurance are reminding holidaymakers of the importance of taking out travel insurance to protect their belongings in case they are lost in transit.

With the number of air passengers expected to double over the next ten years, the Air Transport Users Council has predicted that up to 70 million bags could be going missing on an annual basis by 2019. In spite of this, nearly a quarter of holidaymakers are travelling abroad without travel insurance cover for their luggage.

A spokesperson for AA Travel Insurance said “Airlines are only required by law to pay a specified minimum amount of compensation for any baggage they lose, regardless of how much the contents might actually be worth. So, if your baggage gets lost in transit, you could end up having to pay for replacement items out of your own pocket. The only way to avoid this expense is to make sure that you have adequate insurance against baggage loss.”

AA Travel Insurance policies include luggage protection of up to GBP1,500 per person, cancellation cover of up to GBP5,000 per person, as well as 24 hour emergency medical assistance and medical expenses of up to GBP10,000,000 per person, so if you’re planning on taking a trip abroad this winter, get cover you can trust from the AA.
