Couples Ditch ‘Dirty Weekends’ for ‘Clean Breaks’ With Mates

BASILDON, England - Sneaking off for a dirty weekend with a lover is a thing of the past, as you’d rather take a ‘clean break’ with mates instead, according to a survey we conducted.

We found that more than half (55 per cent) of you in relationships have left your partners behind to jet off on mini-breaks without them, and over one in ten (13 per cent) of you admitted that you actually prefer going on short breaks without your partner.

Getting away with mates to take part in leisure activities that your partner doesn’t enjoy - such as shopping, fishing or golf - was among the most common reasons for leaving loved ones behind, with just over a fifth (22 per cent) of you citing this as a reason.

Around 10 per cent of you described a need for space away from your other half as to why you went away with pals. For the Welsh, however, it was almost double this, with 19 per cent citing a yearning for space and time away from their partner.

Overall though, it seems that Londoners are the most likely to want to escape their partners, with 44 per cent saying they have jetted off on their own or with pals, This compares to 34 per cent of those in the South of England, 35 per cent of those in the North and 36 per cent in Scotland.

Our survey, which questioned 2,000 people, also revealed that:

- Over one in ten of you (11 per cent) go away on ‘Clean Weekends’ to spend some quality time alone. - More than one in twenty (seven per cent) of you go away with friends more than with your significant other. - Over one in ten (11 per cent) admitted to going away with friends as their partners couldn’t afford to go.

In general it seems that mini breaks are a chance for you to have some time away from partners and do things you usually wouldn’t necessarily do if they were there with you.
