MAIDENHEAD, England -
- Security giant uses Faronics Power Save software to save more than 434,400 kWh annually
Faronics is exceptionally proud to announce that ADT Fire and Security plc in the UK & I has selected Faronics - market leaders in PC and Mac power management and system consistency - to manage the power consumption of the company’s desktop and laptop computers. Deployed on 2,700 desktop and laptop computers across thirty offices, Faronics Power Save has enabled ADT UK to lower their computer energy costs in a manner that is non-disruptive to business, user, and IT processes.
ADT is the world leader in electronic fire and security and alarm monitoring solutions, protecting more than seven million commercial, government and residential customers worldwide.
By powering down the company’s computers when they are not being used, Faronics Power Save is providing ADT’s United Kingdom offices with monthly savings of 36,200 kWh or better. “We have had Power Save installed on all of our PCs and laptops for five months now,” said Roger Bunting, Computer Services Manager for ADT UK. “From March 2009 to July 2009, ADT UK has saved 181,037 kWh of electricity. If we add in the savings we generated during the pilot phase, this number jumps up to 227,088 kWh.” Annually, these savings are 434,400 kWh-equivalent to removing 186,792 kg of CO2 from the atmosphere or preventing 76 tonnes of coal from being burned!
Faronics Power Save’s scalable and centralized control over workstation power settings along with its enterprise-wide savings reporting gave it the winning edge over competing solutions. The newly empowered IT department could now override and prevent changes to the power settings on the workstations. Finance liked the fact that Power Save’s reporting provided a quantifiable ROI and tangible savings to the company’s bottom line, and ADT UK’s green crusaders applauded the decision to eliminate PC energy waste. As a result of its success in the UK, ADT will be deploying the software in a phased approach to their fire and security operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Faronics Power Save has been recognized by several industry analysts as a leader in the rapidly developing market of enterprise desktop power management. The UK based research analyst Andrew Lawrence with the 451 Group characterized the deal as “a significant win for Faronics outside of the US”. Earlier this year Mr. Lawrence recognized the ability to detect CPU and disk activity as well as mouse and keyboard activity before taking any actions as Power Save’s greatest strengths. “Power Save’s integration into Faronics Core Console as well as its support for the Windows and Mac operating system gives it an edge in the market,” says Mr. Lawrence. Faronics Core Console provides easy deployment, scheduling, and control abilities for a number of the company’s products.
A free, fully functional 30 day evaluation version of Faronics Power Save can be downloaded from www.faronics.com for both Windows and Mac computers. Faronics Power Save is also compatible with Faronics Deep Freeze, the company’s award-winning system integrity software solution that prevents configuration drift and workstation downtime.
