Asheville Regional Airport Replaces Access Points with High Performance, High Density Wi-Fi Arrays from Xirrus

THOUSAND OAKS, California, April 6, 2010 - Xirrus(R), the Wi-Fi "Power Play" that delivers the most coverage,
bandwidth, and user density in the industry, announced today the deployment
of Xirrus high performance 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays across the Asheville Regional
Airport facilities, located in Asheville, NC. This 163-acre complex consists
of a terminal area, with air carrier facilities occupying 50 acres, rental
car facilities, maintenance facilities, two fixed based operators and a
department of public safety. Asheville Regional Airport services over 37,000
passengers each month by six major airline carriers. Upgrading to Xirrus
Wi-Fi Arrays offered the capability to handle the coverage and density
requirements demanded by the constant influx of passengers, as well as
effectively supporting the needs of the facilities daily operations.

"Our initial plan to expand our wireless coverage was going to require
upwards of 30 traditional APs. That's when we took a look at Xirrus and found
we only required 10 Xirrus Arrays — we bought less and got more bang for our
buck," said Royce Holden, IT Director for the Asheville Regional Airport
Authority. "We needed a solution that wasn't going to tax us with additional
costs for ethernet cables and switches. When we found the Xirrus solution we
were really excited — we could upgrade to a high performance wireless
network and save substantial costs on the entire project."

Royce continued, "When Xirrus comes in to replace a system — I think
it's much easier than another vendor coming in. With the Integrated Array
architecture, you don't have to deal with additional controllers or adding
additional switches — it's pretty much a plug-and-play wireless
infrastructure. The design of the Xirrus Array effortlessly covers wide-open
areas with high ceilings and is capable of handling the density required when
you have a lot of people in one area — Xirrus was made for airport
facilities. Since we put Xirrus in, we haven't had a single complaint –
which is great for us!"
