LONDON, February 18, 2011 - GP Business, a leading non-clinical magazine for General Practitioners,
is to massively increase its circulation - from 10,000 to 33,000 - and launch
a new website, gpbusiness.co.uk.
"The response to GP Business from both readers and advertisers has been
very, very strong," said John Pettifor, CEO of Campden Media, the publishers
behind GP Business. "So the decision to invest in the brand has been easy.
We're confident it will continue to grow rapidly over the next 18 months."
In parallel, the title is joining forces with Campden Media's other
primary care brands, Nursing in Practice and Management in Practice, to
launch the inaugural General Practice Awards. The winners will be announced
at a black tie dinner at the Royal Lancaster hotel in Central London on 16th
GP Business is supported by both the Royal College of General
Practitioners (RCGP) and the NHS Alliance. From March it will be distributed
quarterly free of charge to 33,000 GP's - every practice partner in the UK -
as well as at key primary care events throughout the year.
GP Business was launched in October 2010 to support the non-clinical work
of today's family doctor; an aspect of the GP's role that is rapidly
developing across the UK following the government documents Equity and
Excellence in England and The Quality Strategy in Scotland.
These sweeping reforms aim to remove layers of management and put family
doctors and patients at the heart of the NHS. Primary Care Trusts and
Strategic Health Authorities, which currently control about 80 per cent of
the health service's GBP100 billion budget, will be abolished. Much of this
spending power will, instead, be placed in the hands of GPs.
"This shift will put much greater emphasis on GPs' non-clinical skills,"
said Campden's primary care editor-in-chief Victoria Vaughan. "There are
plenty of magazines and websites catering for family doctors' clinical
information needs. But we think there is a demand for a brand like GP
Business that will deliver first-rate news, features and analysis on the
business of commissioning and practice management."
