LONDON, December 23 - The first annual Cyber Boxing Day, Saturday, 26 of December 2009, will be
one of the busiest online shopping days according to the IMRG, possibly
surpassing this year's current leader, Cyber Monday (7 December). The retail
group predicts that 4.3 million shoppers will go online and spend GBP 120
million up almost 20% from 2008. The new Cyber Boxing Day website at
CyberBoxingDay.co.uk will be featuring the top Boxing Day promotions
throughout the post-Christmas trading period.
According to Kinga Malinowska, founder of CyberBoxingDay.co.uk, "Instead
of braving bad weather and manic Boxing Day crowds at shopping malls in the
early AM, you can enjoy the same discounts from the comfort of your home by
shopping online. At CyberBoxingDay.co.uk, you can find a directory of your
favorite online retailers and get the same Boxing Day bargains online with
steep discounts. According to our survey of the top 100 online retailers, the
average Cyber Boxing Day sale will be an additional 50% - 70% off with free
delivery."
More than 500 online stores are gearing up for Cyber Boxing Day with
post-Christmas online specials going live as early as 23 December in the
build up to the annual mega shopping event. Early entrants include Getting
Personal, La Redoute, M&M Direct, QVC, Republic and Robert Dyas. Meanwhile,
Tesco, ASDA and Sainsbury have already started their post-Christmas cyber
supermarket battle.
However, most online retailers will start their Cyber Boxing Day sales on
Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day. John Lewis will start its
Clearance sale at 6 pm 24 December while its in store sales will start Sunday
27 December, giving shoppers an almost 3 day head start. Other websites
including Argos, Boots, Debenhams, Ernest Jones, H. Samuel, Heals, Marks &
Spencer will start their online sales on Christmas Day while their retail
stores remain closed.
