FRANKFURT - Barely Any Change From January - 2008 Leap-Year Effect Skews Figures

- Group Airports Make Positive Contribution

Frankfurt Airport’s (FRA) traffic figures for February 2009 were level
with the preceding month of January - which was already affected by the
impact of the global economic crisis. Despite a larger minus in absolute
figures, the traffic decline did not accelerate. The higher percent values in
the monthly statistics can be explained by the 2008 leap-year effect, which
featured the extra February 29 calendar day. A statistical adjustment of
approximately 3.5 percent results when excluding this leap day in the year
on-year comparisons.

About 3.3 million passengers used FRA in February 2009, a
decline of 13.3 percent year-on-year - or only about 9.8 percent when
adjusting for the leap-year. Cargo throughput shrank by 25.4 percent
(adjusted figure about 22.9 percent) to 129,962 metric tons of airfreight and
airmail. Aircraft movements dropped by 9.5 percent (adjusted figure 6.1
percent) to 34,393 takeoffs and landings. However, reduced traffic volume had
a positive effect on flight punctuality, with FRA recording a new peak figure
of 83.2 percent for flights departing and arriving on time.

Fraport’s majority-owned airports positively boosted the
Group’s passenger results in the reporting month. In particular, Antalya
Airport on the Turkish Riviera (AYT) and Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru again
registered stable year-on-year passenger growth of 4.7 percent and 4.3
percent, respectively. On the Black Sea coast, Varna Airport (VAR) achieved a
16 percent jump in passengers while Burgas Airport’s (BOJ) traffic more than
tripled - but from a low statistical winter flight basis. Overall, Group
figures resulted in passenger traffic (including FRA) declining by 9.6
percent.
