LONDON - The 2008 Frost & Sullivan Brazilian Water and Wastewater Business Development Strategy Leadership Award is presented to Perenne for its impressive growth over the last four years. The company’s sales and distribution strategy has effectively leveraged its expertise in the high technology reverse osmosis (RO) segment.

“The success of Perenne over the last few years is due to its strategy of partnering with municipal water companies across Brazil and positioning itself as a preferred technology collaborator for the industrial sector,” notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Nuno Branco. “The company has optimised its key strength of designing compact water and wastewater treatment systems.”

Perenne’s recent alliance with PS Corner (making it a subsidiary company), has been aimed at capitalising on the anticipated surge in demand from water companies, mainly in the municipal sector. Such organisational re-structuring has been an integral part of the overall business development strategy of Perenne. Accordingly, in 2008, two companies were formed, one focussing on opportunities in the industrial sector (Perenne) and the other targeting the municipal sector (PS Corner).

“This is another astute strategic decision made by the company in response to the varying demands of its municipal and industrial clients,” explains Branco. “The new structure will enable Perenne to further tailor its technological solutions to suit the specific needs of its municipal and industrial clients.”

In the municipal sector, PS Corner is negotiating with local governments in the North and Northeast region to supply small and medium-sized local municipalities with compact water and wastewater systems. In addition to conventional wastewater treatment systems, the company also offers RO membrane based desalination systems for brackish water treatment projects, which are particularly prominent in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil.

“Perenne has built up a strong position in the municipal sector in the past 10-15 years, particularly in the niche segment of small and medium sized agglomerations,” adds Branco. “In 2007, Perenne achieved a significant milestone by delivering the largest RO water treatment plant in Brazil.”

The recent entry by Perenne into the industrial sector has been highly successful. The company has won two prestigious new ‘turn key’ projects with Petrobras: REVAP and RECAP. It has also bagged high profile projects in the food and beverage sector as well as the oil sector and is expanding into the paper and cellulose and mining sectors.

In order to meet the increased demand for water and wastewater treatment solutions, Perenne is boosting its operational capacity with a factory in Feira de Santana and a business centre in the Northeast region. It is expanding its geographical reach by establishing an R&D centre and a new factory in Sao Paulo state.

“With the Brazilian municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment market forecast to witness high growth over the next 10 years, customers will begin to expect innovative and efficient treatment systems,” concludes Branco. “Perenne is well positioned to grow its sales, gain market share and eventually become an industry standard not only in Brazil but also in South America.”

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Business Development Strategy Leadership is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated excellence in business development within the industry. The Award recognises the company’s ability to best perceive consumer needs, develop products and/or services that meet consumer needs, successfully introduce products or services to the industry, and identify new market segments to expand the existing customer base.
