LONDON - The 2009 Frost & Sullivan European Defence Logistics Product Line Strategy Award in the area of information systems is presented to Miro Technologies. The company’s exceptional product line strategy focuses on four key aspects - end-user needs, market expansion, latest technology and effective business practices.

“Continuous tracking of end user needs, a focus on retaining existing customers, timely provision of economical, high quality solutions coupled with comprehensive client training programmes have underpinned the company’s success,” states Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Srinivas Sishtla. “Over 45 major aerospace and defence customers currently rely on Miro’s support chain management solutions.”

For instance, Miro software now supports PBL/CLS programmes at The Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, Hamilton Sundstrand, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems and the U.S. Navy. Miro has been the preferred supplier of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) solutions for United Kingdom’s Royal Navy since 1993. Currently, it supplies MRO solutions to the British Army and Royal Air Force as well.

Its web-based solution, Work Recording & Asset Management (WRAM) Online, serves as a common management information system, logistics tool, and unit maintenance management tool in support of over 600 Rotary Wing aircraft, 350,000 rotable assets and over 5,000 users across three Ministry of Defence (MoD) services - the Royal Navy, Army, and Air Force.

“Another area where Miro Technologies scores over its competitors is in providing high quality solutions at a reasonable price with a very short time to market,” adds Sishtla. “The WRAM Online solution, a derivative of Miro’s flagship GOLDesp(TM) application, was delivered to the U.K. MoD within ten months from the day the contract was awarded and within the budget constraints set by the MoD.”

In addition to being a dominant player in the United States and the United Kingdom, the company has entered new geographical markets through strategic alliances. For instance, in 2006, it established a partnership with CMC Limited to represent Miro Technologies in the Indian sub-continent, and in 2007, the company appointed Hi-Key Technology as its representative in China.

“On the technology front, Miro Technologies has been among the pioneers in adopting state-of-the-art technology periodically to design and implement low-cost, high quality MRO information systems products,” remarks Sishtla. “Starting with the initial COBOL development of an inventory tracking product for General Dynamics in 1981, then moving on to client-server development with Uniface for McDonnell Douglas in 1994, and now building leading edge business application software on the latest Java-based web service oriented architectures and other commercial-off-the-shelf technology (COTS) for key Fortune 500 and military customers like Boeing, Lockheed Martin and the British Armed Forces, Miro Technologies has consistently leveraged the latest software technology to design its solutions.”

Its new generation logistics and maintenance management product, GOLDesp, combines the battle-proven features of Miro Technologies’ highly successful WRAM application with a new graphical user interface built with the latest Oracle and Java technologies. Further, the maintenance module of GOLDesp is designed to autonomously support deployed units in the field and at sea by means of effective data distribution.

Miro Technologies uses agile processes and has been applying the latest industry software standards like UML and RUP to its products and processes to constantly improve its business practices. It has a mature software development lifecycle with a focus on continuous process improvement.

“The company provides quality assurance throughout the software development lifecycle,” comments Sishtla. “It also provides full project management for in-depth schedule and budgetary control, tailored for customer management and auditing needs.”

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Line Strategy is presented to a company that has demonstrated the most insight into customer needs and product demands. The recipient company should have optimised its product line by leveraging products with the various price, performance, and feature points required by the market.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognise companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
