Groceries Added to Home Meals Service for the Elderly

LONDON - Elderly people across Britain can now have basic groceries delivered along with their home meals, thanks to a groundbreaking new service from provider Oakhouse Foods. The company currently offers a range of over 300 frozen meals and desserts with free home delivery to around 15,000 customers each week throughout Britain.
Customers in need of essential groceries such as teabags or pet food can have these added to their order to be delivered with their regular frozen food order from Oakhouse Foods. There are 290 products available, and no extra charge for delivery.
In the face of declining public services for older people and reports about the levels of malnutrition in those over 65 years of age, the announcement promises to provide a much needed solution for those with mobility issues, or with elderly relatives.
Marketing Manager Hadi John said, “A packet of tea or a tin of beans can mean a lot when you have run out and can’t get to the shops. The aim of this service is to provide the basic shopping that customers can’t get out to buy for themselves. It makes sense as we are already delivering meals and desserts to these people on a weekly basis and from a customer perspective their regular Oakhouse Foods driver is a familiar face.”
“This extra touch has already proved to be very popular with all the customers and professionals we have spoken to. We anticipate it could help a lot of elderly people who currently struggle unnecessarily to the shops or pay someone to do it for them.”

Background Information
Oakhouse Foods was established in 1994 and was one of the pioneers in providing a home delivery service for frozen meals and desserts. Today we deliver to around 15,000 customers each week and offer the largest range in the market with over 300 meals and desserts.
Offering free weekly deliveries and meals from just GBP1.99, our service provides a viable solution for those who find it hard to shop or cook for themselves.
Our products are delivered in branded freezer vans by CRB checked drivers. Our drivers wear company uniforms and carry identification cards for easy recognition by our customers, and will put food away in the client’s freezer on delivery if required.
Most of our meals can be microwaved from frozen in under 10 minutes or oven cooked within 40 minutes. We use quality ingredients and have reduced unnecessary additives where we can - we have so far successfully eliminated artificial colours, MSG and hydrogenated fats from all our food.
We also take our social responsibility very seriously and our drivers will check on the welfare of our customers when they deliver.
Notes for editors
According to research published by Age Concern, over 14% of people aged over 65 in the UK suffer from malnutrition.
Obtaining groceries can be a real challenge for elderly people or those with disabilities. The 6 major grocery retailers in the UK charge for home delivery, or impose a minimum spend for free delivery.
