RAS AL KHAIMAH, United Arab Emirates -
- New Media Reports Raise Troubling Questions about the Current Regime in Ras Al Khaimah and Its Increasingly Active Partnership with Iran
Today, His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the legally recognized Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), responded to reported arrests of an Iranian-connected terrorist ring operating in RAK.
He lauded the efforts of the UAE Federal Government in identifying and stopping the threat but raised concerns about the current governing regime in RAK and its close relationship with Iran:
“Based on information in contained news reports published yesterday, I applaud the Federal Government of the United Arab Emirates for its quick and decisive action in arresting what is reportedly an Iranian-connected terrorist cell with links to Ras Al Khaimah,” said His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
“News reports indicate that this terrorist cell was looking to cause great harm in our region. The fact that the terrorist cell was linked to Ras Al Khaimah is the latest evidence that the close ties between the current regime in Ras Al Khaimah and Iran is not in the best interests of Ras Al Khaimah or the United Arab Emirates.”
“Under the current regime, Ras Al Khaimah has actively forged deep and often shadowy relationships with Iran, including the establishment of a free trade zone where more than 600 Iranian businesses - many working with the Iranian government - have developed gas line deals which help Iran circumvent restrictions and allow our Emirate to be used as a portal for the shipping of weapons. We must say enough is enough: the current regime in RAK is putting all of the United Arab Emirates in harm’s way because of its close ties to Iran.”
