KUWAIT CITY, July 8, 2010 - His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad
Al-Sabah (www.pm.gov.kw/index.asp) will embark on a nine-country,
30,000-mile tour through Latin America beginning Sunday, July 11.
Sheikh Nasser (www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100322/FOREIGN/703219865/1011/rss )
said this three-week trip will help strengthen relations, which have been
dormant for 20 years, with many Latin American countries. The focus of the
tour will be to promote Kuwait's KD 37 billion development plan while
encouraging foreign investment in the nation. The development plan was
approved by Parliament last February and will include the construction of
roads, bridges, a new hospital and a new airport. The Prime Minister said he
will express why it is important for other nations to develop strong economic
and social ties with Kuwait.
Sheikh Nasser also mentioned that Kuwait has not undertaken a high-level
international trip like this in quite some time. The journey will involve
enthusiastic discussions of the forthcoming development plan and serve as a
reflection of how far Kuwait has come in the years since the Iraqi invasion
and occupation.
The delegation includes the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance,
Commerce and Industry, as well as prominent Kuwaiti businessmen. The
delegation will visit Cuba, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina and Mexico,
among other nations.
