CHICAGO -

- Los Angeles Times-Washington Post News Service To Be Dissolved

McClatchy-Tribune Information Services (MCT), a joint venture of the McClatchy and Tribune companies, today announced the incorporation of the Los Angeles Times into MCT’s offerings and services. Effective January 1, 2010, the Los Angeles Times-Washington Post News Service (LATWP) will cease operations.

Upon the close of LATWP, the Los Angeles Times will become one of MCT’s premier providers with some of the best multimedia entertainment, world and national news, business, features, sports and technology coverage available in the United States and abroad. This move will make MCT the world’s leading supplemental news service.

The Times’ world-renowned journalism and 127-year history of excellence promises MCT customers access to first-hand reporting from 13 foreign bureaus, Hollywood, inside Washington D.C.’s Beltway and next year’s Olympics and World Cup, alongside fashion and style, health, travel and food news and information.

With contributions from 600-plus contributors worldwide, MCT provides news articles, feature stories, photos, graphics, illustrations, caricatures, themed content packages and paginated products. MCT material is also produced by its own staff in the United States and Europe, and supplied to more than 1,200 media clients across the country and internationally. MCT is a major provider of content to online information services. MCT products are marketed worldwide by Tribune Media Services (TMS), the global content-licensing unit of the Tribune Company.

“Tribune Media Services is pleased with the opportunity to have the Los Angeles Times world-renowned brand become part of MCT’s service,” said David D. Williams, president and chief executive officer of Tribune Media Services. “We are committed to finding ways to make the service a more valuable resource for our customers, and the inclusion of The Times increases the depth and breadth of coverage MCT offers.”

“The demand for the high quality information MCT provides continues to grow,” said Gary Pruitt, McClatchy’s chairman and chief executive officer. “We’re delighted, obviously, to welcome the Los Angeles Times to this partnership, and I’m certain MCT’s clients will welcome the addition of Los Angeles Times journalism.”

The initial date for incorporating Los Angeles Times content is scheduled for January 1, 2010.
