Swedish Adventurer Attempts to Run Down the Wall of a 100-Metre Skyscraper, Beat the Current Rap Jumping Record and do it Faster Than Usain Bolt.

VASTERAS, Sweden, March 31, 2010 - Swedish adventurer Tony Berglund will run down the wall of a skyscraper
on May 8 2010 in central Vasteras 100 km west of Stockholm, Sweden. He will
not only attempt to crush the current record of 36.25 seconds, but he will
try to do it faster than Usain Bolt's 100 m world record of 9.58 seconds.

With a platform on the roof, the building "Skrapan" will become 100
metres high for one day. The record-breaking attempt will be made by Tony
Berglund
using an old military technique called rappelling, which involves
running down the front of a building using a rope. The high speed up to 90 km
per hour will generate heat of almost 500 degrees. A specially constructed
carbon dioxide cooled rappelling device has been developed in order to reduce
the risk of the rope melting.

The current record holder is Steve Jones (UK), who made his 100 m Rap
Jump in 36.25 seconds on the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, UK, on 16 March
2009
.

Preparations for the world record attempt are fully under way.

More about Rap Jumping, also called Vertical Run

Rap Jumping/Vertical Run originates from an old military technique called
rappelling. In the late 1960s the rappelling technique transformed into
vertical run and was used to lower troops from helicopters as safely as
possible into hot drop zones under heavy fire. The technique is currently
used by both military and police during operations in order to forcibly enter
buildings during combat or ongoing hostage situations. During the late 1980s
a commercial operation was started in Australia where the technique was
launched as a pure adventure experience.
