Matt Graves, VP of International Sales said “Finland has one of the strongest forest clusters in the world: many of the decisions that shape the global industry are made in Helsinki and in the surrounding Nordic region - RISI wants to be close to our valued clients in the region, supporting them with our market intelligence and information services. More than this, some of the world’s best forest industry brains are located in or near to Finland and RISI is seeking to take advantage of this by creating a center of analytical excellence here in Helsinki, by drawing on that expertise.”

RISI produces a wide range of news and analytical products covering European markets. These include the PPI Europe Newsletter, which provides industry news and prices; forecast services for both European Graphic Papers and Paper Packaging; and detailed mill cost benchmarking studies.

The new office is in Ruoholahti, at Tallberginkatu 2 A, 00180 Helsinki, Finland

tel#: +358-9-348-9344

It is already staffed by an experienced paper industry analyst and engineer team:

Sampo Timonen joined RISI in 2008 as the Director of European Graphic Paper. He is one of Europe’s leading Pulp and Paper industry analysts with 10 years of industry-specific expertise. Prior to joining RISI, Timonen served as Equity Analyst most recently at Handelsbanken AB and before that at Glitnir Bank (FIM Group). His earlier career was at Oy Keskuslaboratorio Ab (KCL) (where his responsibilities included project management of Future Watch, a forest industry trend-spotting and SWOT analysis program) and at Myllykoski Paper Oy, forecasting demand and prices of newsprint, SC and LWC papers. He began his career in 1999 at M-real.

Timonen’s analysis is now featured in RISI’s European Graphic Paper Forecast, Paper Trader Europe and various Viewpoints and features on RISI’s main website.

Ville Henttonen is a Product Manager in RISI’s Cost Benchmarking Services. Ville holds a Master of Science degree in Forest Products Technology from Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. His recent publications include competitive cost studies of International Coated and Uncoated Woodfree Papers, European Recycled and Virgin Cartonboard, and European Linerboard and Corrugating Medium.

Jukka Kuntonen, a benchmarking analyst, joined RISI in 2008. He holds a Master of Science degree in Forest Products Technology from Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. He has completed supplementary studies in the field in the USA at Miami University, Ohio, as well. Jukka has worked with cash manufacturing cost analyses, using RISI’s methodology to estimate cost competitiveness of existing pulp and paper mills.
