Sky Television Reduces IT Complexity and Operational Costs with Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Real Application Clusters and Oracle Enterprise Manager

Sky Television (www.skytv.co.nz/) , New Zealand’s pre-eminent pay television operator with more than 779,000 subscribers, including almost half of New Zealand homes, is consolidating and standardizing its technology environment on Oracle Database 11g (www.oracle.com/database) and Oracle Real Application Clusters (www.oracle.com/us/products/database/options/real-application-clusters/index.html) to reduce IT complexity and decrease operational costs.

In addition to Oracle Database 11g, Sky TV is using Oracle Data Guard (www.oracle.com/us/products/database/options/active-data-guard/index.htm) , Oracle Partitioning, Oracle Tuning (www.oracle.com/us/products/enterprise-manager/tuning-pack-11g-ds-068467.pdf) and Oracle Diagnostics (www.oracle.com/us/products/enterprise-manager/diagnostic-pack-11g-ds-068465.pdf) Packs to facilitate the automation and management of the consolidated Oracle technology environment.

Sky TV also benefits from Oracle Enterprise Manager (www.oracle.com/us/products/enterprise-manager/index.html) which it uses for proactive monitoring and to centralize database management.

Sky Television selected Oracle in November 2009 and has implemented the first phase of the project in the first quarter of 2010 by establishing the Oracle technology platform. By July 2010, Sky Television has successfully completed the first migration of its existing legacy platform.

The implementation was facilitated by Gold level member of Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), Enterprise IT (www.enterpriseitglobal.com/Content.aspx?contentK=35) , together with Asparona (www.asparona.com/) , a Platinum level member of Oracle PartnerNetwork, providing the training.
