AUSTIN, Texas and WOODCLIFF LAKE, New Jersey - Joins Microsoft and IBM as only ETL Experts to Sit on Benchmarking Subcommittee

Syncsort, a global provider of high-performance data integration software, is pleased to announce its invitation to join the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC), a non-profit corporation founded to define transaction processing and database benchmarks. Syncsort will participate in the TPC’s ETL Benchmark subcommittee, where it will lend expertise in performance and low total cost of ownership to drive industry thinking and direction.

“We are excited to welcome Syncsort as the newest member of the Transaction Processing Performance Council,” said Michael Majdalany, spokesperson for the TPC. “One of the current goals of the TPC is to disseminate objective, verifiable performance data to the industry by defining and standardizing on an ETL benchmark. With Syncsort on the ETL Benchmark subcommittee, we will be able to leverage their 40-plus years of experience in this space providing transaction processing performance solutions to 96 of the Fortune 100.”

The TPC has recognized that there is no standard benchmark to measure the performance of an ETL tool. Consequently, an ETL Benchmark subcommittee was created in November 2008 after Syncsort partnered with Vertica and HP to set a new ETL World Record. In the November benchmark, Syncsort’s DMExpress extracted, transformed, and loaded 5.4 TB of data at an unprecedented rate of 1.6 GB per second. Deployed on highly cost-efficient HP c7000 Blade servers, the DMExpress solution also set a new cost standard of US$46 per GB hours, 93 percent less than those of previous record holders who set marks of US$636 and US$1,538 per GB hours.

Syncsort will join Microsoft and IBM as the only vendors on the 11 member subcommittee with ETL expertise. Most of the members have expertise in databases and hardware. “Syncsort’s association with the TPC validates our expertise in developing software with appealing price-performance characteristics,” said Harvey Tessler, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at Syncsort. “The group views us as a key ETL expert in the subcommittee and values our feedback for our vast field experience and expertise around ETL use cases and deployments.”

With the support of major systems and software vendors, the TPC has earned a reputation for providing the most credible results in the industry and is the only organization that provides consistent scores that enable end users to clearly understand the actual cost of performance of a system. The TPC is noted for benchmarks that are not exclusive to any particular system or hardware, an extensive auditing process and whole system testing which provides end users with cross platform performance comparisons.

Syncsort was ratified as a member with full voting rights by the TPC General Council in the recently concluded TPC meeting in Austin, Texas.
