LONDON - Winners Announced at Prestigious Award Ceremony

After record entries, the winners have today been announced
for The Publican Awards. Regarded as the pub sector’s Oscars, the annual
ceremony recognises the very best pubs, pub companies and brewers in the
country.

Run by leading trade publication The Publican, the awards
celebrate the unique tradition of the British pub and recognise the fantastic
people and companies behind these community and high street hubs. Judges
include the editorial team, industry bodies, sponsors and city analysts.

In extremely challenging times, these pubs and pub operators
have shown that hard work and determination can create a thriving pub
business which not only offers higher quality food and drink than ever
before, but also supports the community around it.

Without doubt the pub trade is facing enormous pressure from
legislation, tax, the deepening recession and increased competition from cut
price alcohol in supermarkets. Yet despite this, good pubs are still very
much part of the social fabric of local communities. The Publican Awards
supports and showcases the very best British pubs have to offer. These pubs
have the balance right; great people, great value and great service.

Caroline Nodder, Editor of The Publican, said:

“Our award winners and finalists are testament to the fact
that the pub industry has risen to the enormous challenges that have been
thrown at it over the past 12 months.

As one of the judges for The Publican awards I have been blown
away by how our winning licensees and operators have evolved and adapted to
the difficult trading environment. They are not just keeping their heads
above water; they are growing their businesses and are all shining examples
of how wrong the doom-merchants are who talk up the death of the Great
British Pub.”

“Pubs form the beating hearts of their communities, a support
network for their customers, a refuge in the current credit crunch storm and
a great economic and social asset to this country.

The Publican is fiercely Proud of Pubs and believes pubs
should be cherished and celebrated and not dismissed as a dying breed.”
