BOSTON, August 11, 2011 -
RISI, the leading information provider for the forest products industry, has revealed its Power List for 2011. The RISI Power List details the top 50 people, organizations, and developments that have been influential in shaping the course of the global pulp and paper industry over the past 12 months.

The list is based on nominations from RISI’s editors, engineers and economists, as well as from professionals and experts from within the industry. It includes leading figures from all parts of the supply chain, including leading CEOs of pulp and papermaking companies, NGOs, association heads, as well as a number of people from outside the sector including, for 2011, members of royalty!
Heading the list for this year is John Faraci, CEO and chairman of the world’s largest pulp and paper producer, International Paper (IP). Faraci is joined in the top 10 by other leading figures from the producer community, including Teguh Ganda Wijaya of APP, RockTenn’s Jim Rubright, John Williams of Domtar, Antonio Maciel Neto of Suzano, UPM’s Jussi Pesonen, RR Vederah of BILT and Jouko Karvinen, Stora Enso. Also making the list are other influencers and influences including, Son of Black Liquor, Greenpeace and social media.
Important areas to watch for the global industry are tablets and e-readers which make it into the top ten on the RISI Power List due to the massive uptake globally, proving that the devices will certainly have an impact on newsprint, graphic papers and book paper sales in the near future. Other outsiders come in the shape of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge whose recent marriage saw a spike in newspaper sales, particularly in the UK. The couple made it to number 50 on the RISI Power list.
“It has been another really interesting year for the pulp and paper industry globally as we see the industry respond to all sorts of challenges - from the threat of new technology to more environmental concerns and the disparity of growth in different regions. Those personalities who did make the list are to be congratulated as the Power List has become a real industry ‘must read’ in the short three years it has been in existence,” commented Rhiannon James-van Beuningen, Senior Vice President, Marketing Services, RISI.
