Trango Supports Youngest Team Rowing Across The Atlantic
By Prne, Gaea News NetworkTuesday, October 20, 2009
LONDON - Trango is delighted to be supporting team Atlantic Row YT in the Woodvale Challenge Trans Atlantic Rowing Race from the Canaries to Antigua. If successful Tom Heal from Petersfield and Will Smith from Bristol both aged 21 will be the ‘Youngest Team’ (YT) to cross the Atlantic in a rowing boat. Their boat, only 23 feet long and 6 feet wide called Heritage Explorer after the principle sponsor (Heritage Oil) will be shipped from the UK shortly to the start.
Tom and Will are raising money for a charity called the Special Boat Service Association (SBSA), a military charity similar to Help 4 Heroes. Tom explained that the nature of the charity makes raising money more challenging as public appeals are inappropriate. The aims of the SBSA include the provision of support for injured members and bereaved families. The project is certainly in the spirit of the SBS. Donations are welcome and can be made by clicking on the Contact/Sponsor Us page of the Atlantic Row website.
The race starts on 6 December 2009 from La Gomera and Will says they hope to reach English Harbour after 60-80 days at sea rowing approximately 3000 miles.
More details concerning progress will be released during the race.
