Celebrate St George's Day in Style - Stay at The George Hotel

LONDON, April 21, 2010 - TripAdvisor(R), the world's largest and most popular travel community,
today announced its top ten George Hotels in celebration of St George's Day.
There are hundreds of hotels, pubs, inns and B&Bs around the world named
after England's patron saint and famous dragon-slayer. This list, determined
by TripAdvisor's Popularity Index and based on the reviews and opinions from
real travellers, reveals the best hotels named George across England.

"It's often said that we don't celebrate St George's Day enough so what
better way to mark the occasion than by staying in a hotel named after the
man himself. Whether you're looking for a traditional coaching inn or a
boutique brasserie, TripAdvisor travellers have done the hard work for you by
experiencing, and then recommending, the best George hotels England has to
offer," said Emma O'Boyle, spokesperson for TripAdvisor.

1. The George at Wath, Wath, North Yorkshire

Located close to the cathedral city of Ripon, The George is just minutes
from the stunning Yorkshire Dales. Despite its history, the hotel was
refurbished in 2009 and each of its guestrooms is equipped with flat screen
TVs and iPod docking stations. This country pub with its log-burning fire and
a mix of oak and flag stone floor offers the perfect cosy and relaxed
atmosphere to enjoy a pint of real ale. As one TripAdvisor traveller said,
"Fantastic country pub, excellent rooms, excellent food….just perfect!"

2. The George Hotel & Brasserie, Buckden, Cambridgeshire

This hotel is situated in the historic village of Buckden, a tiny village
between St Neots and Huntingdon where Henry VIII sent Catherine of Aragon to
live after their divorce. Each of the 12 beautifully designed bedrooms are
named after a different George, including George Orwell and George Best. As
one TripAdvisor traveller explains, "The service was perfect. Nothing was too
much trouble, and the food was fantastic, both for dinner and breakfast."

3.The George & Dragon Inn, Aysgarth, North Yorkshire

In the heart of the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park and near the
spectacular Aysgarth falls, the George & Dragon Inn has welcomed travellers
for nearly 300 years. Relax in front of a real log fire or on the patio with
views of Pen Hill. As one TripAdvisor traveller explains, "We've travelled
the world and eaten in the best hotels too but believe me, dinner at The
George and Dragon topped everything everywhere."

4.The George Hotel, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Built in the 1840s, The George is one of Cheltenham's finest Regency
hotels and the original features complement the hotel's renovated and
contemporary interior. Guests can dine in the award-winning brasserie or take

TripAdvisor traveller comments, "The extravagant and plush furnishings made
us feel very special with beautiful triple lined curtains against the
Georgian windows, and a massive comfortable bed."

5. The George in Rye, Rye, East Sussex

Located in the centre of Rye, the hotel was recently renovated and now
fuses tradition with contemporary design. The building dates back to 1575 and
even has an original Georgian ballroom. Enjoy a meal in their award-winning
restaurant or pretty courtyard garden. As one TripAdvisor traveller said, "A
beautifully restored hotel full of charm and character in the centre of an
historic town with glorious cobbled streets and ancient buildings."

fab food, a simple menu, but classic Devon, packed with locally sourced
ingredients."

8. The George Hotel & Brasserie, Cranbrook, Kent

The George Hotel is one of Cranbrook's most historical landmark
buildings, dating back to the 14th Century. It is now transformed into one of
Kent's most popular boutique hotels with 12 individually designed rooms
offering a blend of period and contemporary style. As one TripAdvisor
traveller said, "Dinner in the restaurant was some of the best pub food I've
eaten anywhere in the UK and reasonably priced too."

9. The George Hotel, Bloomsbury, London

This Grade II listed Georgian townhouse is tucked away just north of
Russell Square on the edge of Bloomsbury and was built in the early 1800s.
Positioned in a classic curved crescent overlooking gated gardens and tennis

George is the location - walking distance to many pubs and restaurants, the
British Library and British Museum…just an honest, down-to-earth English
hotel."
