LONDON - Three new faces - Amaka Okafor, Ery Nzaramba and Liam Lane - have joined returning members John Cockerill, Julie Hewlett and Samantha Adams in the Unicorn Ensemble.

Amaka recently appeared as Stephanie in Dr Korczak’s Example, a Manchester Royal Exchange / Arcola co-production. This will be the first time that she has worked at the Unicorn.

Ery played Oliver in As You Like It at the Curve Theatre earlier this year, and Unicorn audiences may remember him from Theatre Centre’s Romeo in the City, which played at the Unicorn in 2007.

Liam has just completed a tour of Romeo and Juliet with the Young Shakespeare Company, in which he played Romeo. He appeared in the Unicorn’s Duck! (2007) and Journey to the River Sea (2006).

John, Julie and Samantha performed in The Red Fortress, Sleeping Beauty, The Cat Who Ran and Twelfth Night as part of the first Unicorn Ensemble in the 2008-9 season. The Unicorn is delighted to welcome them back for 2009-10.

The 2009-10 ensemble will star in Cinderella (Dec-Jan 2009), the stage première of Siobhan Dowd’s hit children’s novel The London Eye Mystery (Mar-Apr 2010), plus a third Unicorn production to be announced in spring 2010.

Notes to editors

The Unicorn Ensemble is a six-strong team of resident actors that works with the Unicorn theatre company on a year-round basis, starring in all Unicorn productions and working with young people as part of the theatre’s education and youth programme. The Ensemble is made possible by a grant from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

The Unicorn is the UK’s flagship theatre for young people. Our home is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art building, located on the south bank of the Thames, close to Tower Bridge and a short walk from London Bridge station. As well as creating its own productions, we host visits by some of the UK and World’s other great theatre companies for young people.
