TEL-AVIV, Israel -
- WebTView Extends Marvell Plug Computing Ecosystem by Integrating Software to Dynamically Discover and Automatically Classify High Quality Internet TV Content.
WebTView, a leader in Internet-based video search and classification, today announced that its WebTVPlug(TM), based on the SheevaPlug(TM), powered by Marvell(R) Sheeva(TM) CPU technology is now available for purchase around the globe through www.webtview.com. Connected to the cloud-based WebTView platform, WebTVPlug(TM) is designed to enable Internet TV on any DLNA/UPnP-enabled home device. WebTView has developed a software platform that specializes in automatic scanning of the Internet to build a normalized and unified Internet video catalog. This video catalog is verified on an on- going basis. The solution also maps and transforms the original video formats into required video formats that can be played on any consumer electronic device.
“With more people shifting to the Internet to watch their favorite TV shows and online videos, WebTView empowers consumers to easily search and watch TV-quality videos originated on the Internet from their TV, mobile phone, or PC,” said Eli Fux, WebTView Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder. “WebTVPlug(TM) is the perfect solution that enables the most updated content delivered from the Internet on any consumer electronic device.”
The Marvell SheevaPlug is designed to enable high-performance, always on, always connected, and environmentally friendly computing that is readily available for developers and end-users. A Plug Computer is designed to draw so little power that it can be left on all of the time. Unlike other embedded devices in the home, it contains a gigahertz class processor designed to offer PC class performance. Plug Computing has been quickly expanding, bringing users new devices, services, and value-added applications, as well as delivering advanced avenues for network connectivity.
“We are pleased that WebTView has joined Marvell in our commitment to further proliferate the popularity of Plug Computing among consumers,” said Dr. Simon Milner, Vice President and General Manager of the Enterprise Business Unit, Consumer and Communications Business Group at Marvell Semiconductor. “WebTView’s expertise with Internet video and its smart software will help bring Internet videos to the home and will extend the Plug Computer’s reach even further among today’s YouTube generation.”
The Marvell SheevaPlug uses a Marvell Kirkwood(TM) System-on-a-Chip (SoC) based on an embedded 1.2GHz Sheeva CPU equipped with 512 Mbytes of FLASH and 512 Mbytes of DRAM. Connection to the home network is via Gigabit Ethernet. Peripherals such as direct attached storage can be connected using a USB 2.0 port. Multiple standard Linux 2.6 kernel distributions are supported to enable rapid application development. The enclosure is designed to draw less than one tenth of the power of a typical PC being used as a home server.
