Where do the IOCs Fit Into the North African Gas Industry?

The recent uprisings in many North African countries, combined with huge gas finds in the East Mediterranean, and issues such as shifting policies on gas exports within countries such as Libya, Algeria, and Egypt have had enormous implications on the European and global gas market.  These changes have resulted in commercial organisations across the supply chain, as well as governments in the region, being forced to rethink their strategies for offshore and onshore gas E&P activity.

Gastech Specialist Events are delighted to announce the East Mediterranean and North African Gas Forum, sponsored by SEA NG and MENA Hydrocarbons Inc., which will be held in Rome, 27 - 29 February 2012.

The Forum will address such issues as: how close we are to achieving the regional vision for gas development in North Africa; the latest updates on undersea and onshore pipeline development and LNG facilities within/ connecting to the region; and crucial questions for European countries about the continued rise in gas demand and the mitigation of reliance on too few sources of gas.

Main areas to be discussed include:

• The current geopolitical, cultural, and economic landscape in countries affected by the ‘Arab Spring’, and what is the impact for IOC’s and energy companies across the supply chain
• Europe’s medium and long term requirement for gas imports - current and future North African export policy
• Assessing how close is the region to achieving a collective, well integrated vision for inter-region trade and cooperation
• The new gas discoveries in the East Mediterranean
• Country-specific challenges and opportunities in Libya, Egypt, Lebanon, Cyprus, Israel, Turkey and Algeria
• Up-to-the-minute developments with maritime law and border disputes
• The role gas will play in power generation in the region and domestic gas markets in the near term
