73rd Tokyo International Gift Show Spring 2012 to Be Held on Feb. 8-10 at Tokyo Big Sight

TOKYO, December 14, 2011 -

Business Guide-Sha, Inc., the organizer of the Tokyo International Gift Show (TIGS), announced on December 14 that its next exhibition will be held in February 2012. The TIGS is the largest trade show in Japan with exhibits of personal gifts, consumer goods and decorative accessories. It is held semiannually, in spring and autumn, and the next show, marking its 73rd exhibition, will use all exhibition halls at Tokyo Big Sight. The 73rd TIGS will feature more than 2,400 exhibitors (including 216 companies from 22 countries and regions, such as China, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, UK and USA), anticipating some 200,000 visitors from around the world.

The theme for the TIGS Spring 2012 will be “Expecting V-shaped recovery of the Japanese Economy.” The show, running from February 8 to 10 at Tokyo Big Sight (86,460 sq. m), will be the largest show of the kind ever. There will be over 3 million new products introduced. The show will comprise 44 fairs zoned into 44 genres. The fairs will include those featuring Japan’s traditional & modern products, animation and character licenses, home-furnishing goods, young fashion and children’s items, stylish goods, gourmet and dining styles.

The exhibitors and exhibitions will include:

  • Japanese kimono, traditional handicraft and food will be exhibited by over 250 domestic companies.
  • The Cool Japan Project by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry,  Japan Traditional Craft Center, and the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation.
  • Buden Shoten’s recently launched fashion brand using Japanese calligraphy.
  • Japanese animation and their characters, including: Astro Boy celebrating    his 60th anniversary, Rilakkuma of San-X Co., Ltd., Monchhichi of Sekiguchi and others.
  • From overseas, licensees of Disney and Marvel from the Disney EXPO, and Peanuts characters.
  • Major toy manufacturers such as from TAKARATOMY-A.R.T.S. CO., LTD. and BANPRESTO CO., LTD.
  • Tokyo Sky Tree’s licenser and licensee goods from various broadcasting companies will also be exhibiting. Tokyo Sky Tree will be the world’s tallest digital broadcasting tower at 634 meters when completed in May 2012.
