Aleris Names Kelly Thomas Vice President, Global Risk Management

BEACHWOOD, Ohio, September 29, 2010 - Aleris International, Inc. has named Kelly Thomas vice president, Global
Risk Management, effective October 1, 2010. Thomas, currently director, Risk
Europe, succeeds Mary Lou Southwood, who leaves Aleris upon completion of her
engagement to reengineer the global risk management process.
Thomas has nearly 20 years of financial and commercial leadership
experience. Prior to joining Aleris in 2010, Thomas was vice president, Alcoa
Materials Management Europe. Before Alcoa, she held management positions at
IBM and Reynolds Metals.
"Kelly has played a key role in developing our enhanced and expanded
global risk organization at Aleris," said Sean Stack, Aleris executive vice
president and chief financial officer. "Her metal, commercial and risk
experience will enable Aleris to continue to drive best practices into our
global organization."
Thomas has a B.S. in Finance from the University of Virginia.
