KPN Gains Traction and Hits Targets With New Measurement Framework Implemented With IJI

AMSTERDAM, October 5, 2010 - KPN, the leading telecommunications and ICT service provider in The
Netherlands
, has partnered with Ivar Jacobson International to deliver a
successful new IT measurement framework for KPN's IT division (ITNL). The
measurement framework called 'Better, Faster, Cheaper, Happier' has built new
practical, easy to understand metrics that are clearly tied to organisational
goals and objectives helping ITNL engage with the business.

"Every organization needs to run successful measurement programmes that
show true value and IT results, presented in a way the business can
understand," said Ian Spence, CTO of Ivar Jacobson International. "But how
many are showing that IT and the business are better, faster, cheaper or that
their customers, users and other stakeholders are happier? This is what KPN
has been able to achieve with their new framework."

Much of KPN's previous measurement work was fragmented and it didn't
communicate very well within ITNL or across the business. People were not
motivated enough to use the metrics as they weren't clearly tied to their
goals and objectives. This meant that the measures didn't help ITNL to engage
with the business.

"The measurement framework we've implemented together with IJI now
provides us with better insights into areas that we need to improve on and
enables us to track the effect of improvement initiatives on our
performance," said Inge Diepenhorst, Manager at KPN's Software Competency
Centre. "It's great to see, for example, that since we started on the
implementation of the IJI Iterative and Use Case Essentials practices we've
made significant progress in our time and budget predictability."

Furthermore, the simple yet intuitive measures weren't intimidating and
helped facilitate discussions between KPN's IT teams and key business
stakeholders.

"This loop of measuring IT performance, taking the right action to
improve the innovation process and tracking the effect allows us to become a
learning organization that will only get better and better!" said Ms.
Diepenhorst.
