A good head for heights and collaborative working practices were of vital importance when main contractor Rok appointed Anglian Building Products to supply and install new windows throughout a 17-storey tower block in the north of Bristol.

Managing Bristol City Council’s five-year planned programme of property repairs in the north of the city, Rok established an integrated team including a number of specialist sub-contractors to refurbish Lansdowne Court in the Easton area of the City.

The partnership worked together to deliver new energy efficient windows, bathroom, kitchens, new roof covering, concrete repairs to the external walls and a brand new insulated cladding system.

Anglian replaced nearly 500 windows with easy to clean PVC-u fully-reversible windows, incorporating multipoint locking with integral restrictors. Each window was installed using specially designed and manufactured fixing brackets into an existing steel sub-frame. The tube and fit scaffolding and hoists were erected by the contractor enabling Anglian to complete the works to each individual flat in a day.

The programme required Anglian on-site intermittently in-line with the main contractor programme, which ran for duration of 18 months. Regular contact was maintained between Anglian and ROK throughout the programme of repairs ensuring all work was efficiently managed to avoid potential disruption.

Two installation teams were appointed by Anglian to undertake the work. Regular contact was maintained with residents through Rok’s Resident Liaison Officers and the on-site team who provided up-to-date information and support as the project progressed.

Collaborative working practices by both Anglian and Rok enabled the project to be completed ahead of time.

Project Manager for Anglian, Ken Aston said: “Working with Rok on this project was seamless and close liaison between our fitters, project team and Rok ensured we remained within the timescales, avoided any issues and ultimately minimised resident disruption.”

Adrian Marshman, Team Leader for Rok commented:

“Working at Lansdowne Court has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Being here for 18 months has allowed us to build a strong bond with the local community and supply chain. We are extremely proud of the work that we have collectively undertaken at Lansdowne Court and are delighted that we have been able to touch the lives of so many people, in such a positive fashion.”
