COLOGNE, Germany, April 21, 2010 - The web presentation "Network against Nazis - with help and
advice against right-wing extremism" of the Amadeu Antonio Foundation will
receive the new European CIVIS Online Prize on Thursday in Berlin. The
prize-winner is the journalist responsible for the web presentation, Simone
Rafael. The CIVIS Online Prize recognizes journalistic web offers on the
theme of integration and cultural diversity, which have a web-oriented
graphical and multi-medial approach. All design forms were permitted. The
price is endowed with 5,000 Euros.
www.netz-gegen-nazis.de offers a comprehensive overview
of current manifestations of right-wing extremism and conveys basic knowledge
on the theme. Network against Nazis disproves radically right-wing, racist
and anti-Semitic ideological approaches as well as argumentations linked with
them. The web offer is addressed to citizens who come into contact with
neo-Nazis in their environment. A service section with practical everyday
tips and links to social networks supplements the webpages. In the opinion of
the jury, the web offer provides the user with "Networking and solidarity -
they offer protection. An objective and serious approach".
Two further web offers were nominated for the European CIVIS
Online Prize 2010: www.metropolistv.nl - "50 reporters from all over
the world on one theme" from the Dutch VPRO TV and www.qantara.de -
"Dialogue with the Islamic World" - from Deutsche Welle und Partner.
The CIVIS Online Prize will be awarded on April 22, 2010 at
17.00 hrs., in the European House in Berlin. The Chairwoman of the Board of
Trustees of the CIVIS Media Foundation and Director-General of the
Westdeutscher Rundfunk, Monika Piel, will open the event. The Vice-President
of the European Parliament, Dr. Silvana Koch-Mehrin, will give the laudatory
address and present the prize. The prize-giving ceremony will be held at the
invitation of the CIVIS Media Foundation and the Information Office of the
European Parliament for Germany in the European House.
