KINGSTON UPON THAMES, England, November 18, 2010 - Bosses at online travel agency TravelRepublic.co.uk are preparing to
write a series of large cheques to the BBC Children In Need appeal as their
innovative Facebook campaign to reach 100,000 'likes' enters its final day.
The Kingston-upon-Thames travel giant recently pledged to donate
GBP25,000 if it could get 100,000 people to 'like' it on Facebook via its
dedicated page: www.facebook.com/travelrepublic. The company, which
launched its Facebook presence less than a month ago, now has more than
40,000 fans and the figure is growing fast.
Managing director Paul Furner said: "We are delighted that people are
getting behind this cause, and we're really seeing the campaign gather
momentum. It is being posted all over Facebook and the clicks are coming
through thick and fast now."
"Today, we hit 40,000 'likes' and were delighted to write a cheque for
GBP10,000 to the BBC Children In Need appeal. We have set a series of
additional targets and are pretty confident that we will make it to 100,000
'likes' and a donation of GBP25,000 in total. We are thrilled that we have
already made a significant contribution to this brilliant cause. However, we
really want to write that cheque for GBP25,000. We have until midnight on
