LONDON -

- Respondents to Ongoing Survey Include Decision Makers, Influencers for Commercial Buildings in Europe.

Frost & Sullivan, the Growth Partnership Company, has launched the first ever ongoing study of building specifiers and facility managers in the commercial sector about their awareness, adoption, plans and spending on green building technologies. The programme will cover the main 5 European countries: UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain on an ongoing basis.

The green building promise has been linked to European economic growth and prosperity, in addition to European Union strategic initiatives to drive energy efficiency. Coupled with increasing efforts by building owners to drive down costs, the market for green building technologies is expected to grow significantly over the next decade.

“Increasing energy costs, rising environmental awareness, the growing importance of corporate sustainability strategies, and increasing regulations will all continue to drive the growth in the market,” explains John Raspin, Director, Energy and Environment at Frost & Sullivan. “Challenges to this growth include the fragmented supplier network, as suppliers compete for building owners’ budgets.”

All respondents to the study will be decision makers and influencers for commercial buildings in the largest EU countries. Frost & Sullivan intends to survey two groups of key influencers in the implementation decision process: (1) Specifiers: Architects, Engineering Consultants and Mechanical or Electrical Contractors (i.e., individuals who influence or make the decision for the specification and installation of green building technologies); and (2) End Users: Facility Managers (i.e., individuals who manage or operate commercial buildings).

The study will provide coverage of a wide range of technologies that impact a building’s efficiency, both those installed directly into the building and those outside the building. Coverage of these technology groups will include prioritization of investment, and technology ROI ratings.

The study will provide suppliers to the commercial building construction and refit markets with unique insight as to the likely demand for their and their competitors’ products and services. Findings will help drive brand positioning, marketing communications and messaging, product development and sales strategies.

“This is ground breaking research that gets straight to the root of customer issues,” explains Peter Shreeve, Director, Customer Research, Frost & Sullivan. “Because the market is competitive, event driven, and somewhat fluid, suppliers need a tracking mechanism that provides reliable trending of market performance indicators. At the same time, this mechanism must be sensitive to high-impact events, such as a spike in energy prices.”

Interviews will be conducted every month split equally between specifiers and end users, resulting in 2,000 completed surveys annually, 400 per country, 500 in total per quarter. The survey will sample executives from the commercial real estate, healthcare, and education facilities sectors.

“The continuous coverage allows for the monitoring of all significant market activity,” adds Shreeve. “And as we see the first signs of recovery from recession and the expectation of an imminent recovery in the construction industry its creation is timely.”

Frost & Sullivan is pleased to be the first firm to be driving this exciting endeavour on such a scale.

The Customer Research team at Frost & Sullivan conducts independent, non-sponsored research among end-users to evaluate and measure companies and trends in the market.
