Growth of Indonesian Food Industry Draws Fi Asia to Jakarta

BANGKOK, June 14, 2010 - The rapid development of the Indonesian food industry over the past 5
years has been remarkable. In fact the 41% growth rate for 2009 translated
into about 14.5 million tons of ingredients being consumed in the country for
that year alone.
As a result, UBM, the show organiser of the event since its inception,
has decided to make Jakarta the host city for Food ingredients Asia 2010.
"Up until now the show has always been held in Bangkok," said UBM
Managing Director, Michiel Kruse. "Last year's event was very successful
attracting 250 exhibitors and 6,300 visitors. Our plan is to have the show
alternate between Bangkok and Jakarta. But if Indonesia continues to have
this kind of growth it is possible we may just keep the show in the
Indonesian capital," he said.
Mr Frank Sibarani, Secretary General of the Indonesian Food & Beverage
Association - GAPMMI, was also optimistic. "We estimate that this year will
see sales in the Indonesian food industry of over IDR 600 trillion," he said.
"In order to support this kind of growth we need a cost efficient and
innovative food ingredients program where all facets of the business can be
brought to comply with Indonesian National Standards (SNI)" he said.
The Chairman of IAFT (The Indonesian Association of Food Technologists)
and Director of SEAFAST Center IPB, Dr Purwiyatno Haridyadi noted that,
"There are plenty of local ingredients with the potential for economic
development here, such as Eugenol which is made from cloves, of which
Indonesia is the biggest supplier in the world," he pointed out.
Both IAFT and SEAFAST Center IPB will be organising an international
Seminar at Fi Asia 2010. The presentation will cover the latest opportunities
in the food ingredients industry.
Mr Teddy Halim, project Director of PT Media Artha Sentosa, the local
organiser of Fi Asia 2010, said 85% of the exhibition space is already
booked. Participating countries include Australia, China, UK, France, Italy,
Japan, Netherlands, Thailand, USA, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia.
"There will also be large National Pavilions featuring many companies from
China, India and the USA", he said.
Indonesian food businesses will not want to miss this major event. Fi
Asia 2010 will run from 29 September - 1 October 2010 at JI Expo Kemayoran,
Jakarta, Indonesia.
