Gifted Gamers can now Achieve an Official Guinness World Record Direct From the App!
LONDON, April 14, 2011 - Guinness World Records today announces the launch of its new Gamer's
Edition Arcade app available on iPad, iPhone, iPod and Android from today for
59p at the iTunes Store (www.apple.com/ipad/apps-for-iPad/).
Gamer's Edition Arcade is the first-ever dedicated gaming app from
Guinness World Records and complements the recently released best-selling
title, Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer's Edition. The app features five
exciting challenges which give users the opportunity to earn their place in
the record books, alongside sample content from the Gamer's Edition book.
The app's five official record challenges are inspired by classic
videogames and make full use of interactive features including touch, swipe,
vibrate and accelerator. Every game offers the chance to set an official
Guinness World Records title. Achieve the highest score on:
- Monkey Country: The gorillas have gone crazy! Take out as many primates
as you can in one minute
- Mental Gears: Engage fingers and brain to pick a
series of locks, opening as many as possible in 60 seconds
- Chest Of Destruction: It's bomb disposal against the clock! Cut the
correct wires before they blow
- Hoover's Hot-Air Escape: Race your balloon up a treacherous canyon,
avoiding the overhanging cliffs
- Rupee Roulette: Tilt the treasure chest to swipe the rupees before the
clock hits zero
- Adventure Mode: Is the ultimate challenge, with Thomas Braider, a
famed archaeologist, guiding gamers on a full-on record-breaking romp through
all five challenges.
Scores can be shared through Facebook, Game Center or Open Feint, and
players compete on global and local leader boards hosted at
www.guinnessworldrecords.com. Somebody is guaranteed a place in
Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2012 when the world's best for each
challenge is announced on 1st September 2011.
A free, lite version app also launches today giving gamers the chance to
test their skills in one select game, compete for a new Guinness World
Records title and sample content from Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer's
Edition. The Gamer's Arcade app has been created by Plow Digital.
Commenting on Gamer's Arcade, Gaz Deaves, Gaming Editor at Guinness World
Records, said: "This is our first-ever gaming app and we wanted to capture
that retro spirit of classic gaming. I'm sure that our gamer fans will
recognise the games and feel the heritage, and looks forward to smashing some
new Guinness World Records."
