- Legal Advice Helpline Offers Top Tips Before Getting Behind the Wheel

LONDON, August 26 /PRNewswire/ –

Road works, major traffic congestion and the resulting road rage are just some of the traditional hassles holidaymakers face as they try to get to their holiday destination as quickly as possible.

According to the AA, more than 50% of people who normally holiday abroad will be opting to ’staycation’ this year: vacationing in the UK as opposed to holidaying abroad to save money. Add to this the predicted 900 miles of road works on English motorways this month, there is little doubt that the roads are going to be even more chaotic than usual.

Keith Rowley, director of new online legal service, Legal Advice Helpline offers holidaymakers top tips on what they should know before taking to the roads this weekend:

- Before setting off this weekend, plan your trip around the Accident Black Spots (www.legaladvicehelpline.com/personal-injury/road-safety.aspx). It takes little time, but can save you a lot of wasted hours spent Waiting in your car. - The Highway Agency has identified the busiest sections of the road this long weekend to be the A303 westbound at Stonehenge, the M5 southbound (between junctions 15 and 21) and near Exeter (between junctions 29 and 30), so take an alternative route if possible. Check the latest traffic information on the Highways Agency (www.highways.gov.uk/) website before setting off. - Know what to do if you find yourself involved in a road traffic accident. Depending on the severity of the collision, there are a number of things which people should do at the time to help with the claims process: - You must always stop at the scene of the accident - Failure to do so is an offence - Always exchange insurance information, i.e.; name, address and phone number details with the other driver - Obtain the name, address and phone number details of any witnesses - If the police attend, obtain the police officer’s warrant number - Make a note of the road layout and weather conditions at the time of the car accident - Also make a note of whether or not the police breathalysed the other driver

“It is not always possible to avoid accidents because accidents do happen, even to people who drive cautiously. However, by being prepared with the right information and by avoiding congested areas, drivers will be in a better position to lessen the risk to themselves and their passengers.”
