LONDON - The Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) will be launching their manifesto ‘Prescription for Innovation’ on Monday 14 September at Imperial College. The manifesto will be launched by Chris Brinsmead, President of the ABPI, in partnership with Richard Lambert of the CBI, Professor Steve Smith of Imperial and Ade Adeagbo of patients’ organisation National Voices.

In anticipation of the next general election “Prescription for Innovation” will set out a comprehensive roadmap for bringing modern medicines to UK patients. The manifesto will detail the ABPI’s vision for how industry can work together with government and the NHS to ensure better patient health, a cost-efficient NHS, and a healthy life sciences industry which continues to contribute to UK innovation and the economy.

A better business environment is crucial for the country’s economic recovery and rapid improvements are necessary to ensure that R&D levels of investment are sustained in order to remain competitive in attracting and retaining investment in the UK and the top level, highly skilled jobs that go with it. At the London launch of the manifesto, leaders from the academic community and patient groups will join representatives of industry in urging government to take action to boost innovative research in the UK.
