Mozambique Coal Industry, September 13, 2011 -

The next few months marks a pivotal quarter for coal in Mozambique. It is reported that Moatize is potentially the largest reserve of coking coal in the world and that about 100 million tonnes per annum of coal could be produced within the next five years with that figure anticipated to increase. In anticipation of the significant quantities of seaborne coal soon to come on line, stakeholders are asking key questions on how the region will be developed to support the pit to port infrastructure for unlocking the resource value.

Project updates from Mozambique’s major producers, latest developments in unlocking coal delivery, key developments and innovations in coal infrastructure including rail, ports, bridges and alternative strategies for transporting coal, supply and demand forecasts including US policy expectations, infrastructure financing and the new Mining Act and Geological Policy are some of the key issues which will be discussed  at the Coal Exploration and Production Mozambique  conference, which takes place from 17 - 19 October in Maputo, Mozambique. The programme can be found on www.coalproductionmoz.com and is supported by the AMDCM (Mozambican Coal Development Association)  featuring keynote presentations from Hon. Dr. Esperança Bias, Ministry of Mineral Resources, Mozambique; Hon. Paulo Zucula,  Ministry of Transport and Communications, Mozambique and Hon. Alcinda Abreu, Ministry of Coordination of Environmental Affairs, Mozambique . The event will also include leading presentations from technology partners; Roymec Technologies, Barloworld Equipment, Manitou who will showcase leading solutions at the event.
