In their study, they looked at both couples and families travelling on cheap flights. They also looked at the most popular weeks for travel.
The main conclusion of the study is that Europeans prefer seaside locations as summer holiday destinations, which is why the most popular places this year were on the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands.
While Spanish and Italian holiday makers tend to spend their summers on the islands of their own countries, English, French and German tourists usually choose to go abroad. They prefer European or North African capitals and not just locations by the sea.
This summer, the top destination for both English couples and families was Lisbon, followed by Athens, Barcelona, Malaga and Milan. The French favoured Barcelona, then Portugal and Morocco and Tunisia.
The Germans seem to be still very much in love with Majorca, as this is their top destination, whether they travel as a couple or with their family. Other popular destinations are London, Athens, Istanbul and Lisbon.
Spanish couples and families chose Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca, while Italians headed to their own islands of Sicily and Sardinia.
Most Popular Travel Dates
Within July and August, certain times were favoured by certain types of travellers. Couples tended to go for the first week of the month, especially the 1st-6th August. While families seemed to prefer the one after, flying between the 7th-13th. But overall, the most popular day for eDreams customers to start their summer holidays was Monday 8th.
