BOLTON, England - Postal workers have voted in favour of a national strike, the Communication Workers Union (CWU) has confirmed.

More than 120,000 people were balloted and, of those who voted, 67 per cent declared their support for industrial action, which could lead members of the public to seek alternative parcel delivery services, such as those offered by Parcel2Go.com.

A series of regional strikes have brought the country’s postal system to a standstill in recent weeks, with millions of letters and parcels left sat in Royal Mail sorting offices.

Postal workers voted three to one in favour of strike action, with more than 60,000 members of staff supporting the move.

CWU general secretary Billy Hayes said that Royal Mail employees have been left with little choice.

“It has come to this because of the management of Royal Mail and the government’s refusal to engage the workforce on modernising the company,” he stated.

The threat of a national strike has seen Amazon, one of the Royal Mail’s biggest customers, put a contingency plan in place to use alternative parcel delivery services to ensure consumers receive their goods this Christmas.

Notes to editors:

www.parcel2go.com/ was founded in 2000 by Fil Adams-Mercer following the successful sale of a video rental business to Blockbuster.

The company was borne out of a magazine distribution business which had operated out of a stairwell of one of his video stores in Bolton.

Parcel2Go.com developed an online presence during the first dot-com boom and has since steadily grown to be one of the UK’s leading parcel delivery services.

The company has over 600,000 users and sends 750,000 parcels each year.

Parcel2Go.com is the only courier website to offer such a wide variety of products from world-leading handlers, including Fed-Ex, DHL, City Link, UPS, Home Delivery Network and Royal Mail to offer customers a cheaper and more flexible service.

Parcel2Go.com now generates a turnover of almost GBP11 million.

The firm is managed by Fil Adams-Mercer and his son, Richard, who helped launch the company when he was still only 19.
