Nation of Animal Lovers Still Treat Their Animals Despite the Pinch on Their Pockets

STONELEIGH, England, August 27, 2010 - As a nation of animal lovers, the amount of money we spend on
pets is increasing and the recession and financial downturn seem to have had
little effect. According to Mintel (www.mintel.com) the pet
accessories and healthcare sector is still growing, as is the pet food
market.

But our love of animals is not just restricted to cats and
dogs. A survey by Your Horse Live has revealed just how passionate and caring
riders are about their horses.

60% proudly said they would rather treat their horse than
themselves, and almost two thirds of riders (62%) believe it is important to
treat their horse.

Julie Brown, editor in chief of Your Horse magazine which
organises the event, said: "We know that horse owners and riders are generous
people, but these results show just how strong the bond they share with their
horse is."

A staggering 93% of horse enthusiasts spend up to GBP25 a
month on titbits for their horse, in addition to feed. Many opt to treat
their horse to mineral licks, stable toys and the old favourites - carrots
and polos!

Julie adds: "Interestingly comparing treatments for themselves
and for their horse 76% of respondents spend the same amount, if not more, on
special equine treatments such Reiki sessions, massages and touch therapy
sessions.

"Since Your Horse Live began we have found that riders are
very open to new treatments and holistic options, which are now key features
of the show. Horse owners clearly feel it is important to look after
themselves to ensure their horse's mental and physical wellbeing is kept in
tip top condition."
