Expert Debate on Real Farmer Income(TM) Concept Charts Course Toward a Sustainable Highest Quality Coffee Supply
PAUDEX, Switzerland, November 12 - Nestlé Nespresso SA, the worldwide pioneer and market leader
in highest-quality premium portioned coffee, has concluded its Third AAA
Sustainable Quality(TM) Coffee Forum, from 10 to 11 November 2009 in Boston,
which bought together experts, academics, industry leaders, commercial
partners, farmers, NGOs, public and agri-finance specialists to debate about
"Financing the Future and Creating Real Farmer Income(TM)". Expert debate
focused on the Nespresso concept of Real Farmer Income(TM) to develop a clear
roadmap to build and finance a truly sustainable future for the highest
quality coffee sector.
"Balancing long-term economic, environmental and social
considerations has always been our vision for the Nespresso AAA Sustainable
Quality(TM) Program," said Richard Girardot, CEO of Nestlé Nespresso SA, to
mark the Forum's conclusion. "Real Farmer Income(TM) has established that
sound economics must go hand in hand with enhanced environmental and social
outcomes".
A new study by business school INCAE into coffee farm
economics in Brazil, Guatemala, Colombia and Costa Rica was also reviewed by
Forum participants. Real Farmer Income(TM) identifies quality and yield as
the twin keys to long term economic value creation for partner farms and
farmers. Within the AAA Sustainable Quality(TM) Program, Real Farmer
Income(TM) provides the economic insights to fuse sustainability, and its
environmental, premium price and social improvements, into a single, unique,
long term quality and sustainability program.
Launched in collaboration with the Rainforest Alliance in
2003, the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality(TM) Program aims to safeguard the
long-term supply of highest quality coffee, while improving the quality of
life of farmers and their communities. In June 2009, Nespresso committed to a
target to source 80% of its coffee through the AAA Program, from Rainforest
Alliance Certified(TM) farms, by 2013 as a part of Ecolaboration(TM) the
Nespresso platform for sustainable innovation
